The 2007-2008 Metrowest Basketball Season has now come to an end. Congratulations to all who participated and made this season a success.
The DS Youth Basketball Program continues to expand and improve. This year a record 21 teams with over 220 players participated. Four teams played in the semi-finals and two teams won their division championship. New to the Youth Basketball Program this year was the game played between two second grade girls teams during the half-time of the last Girls Varsity Home Game, a special treat for all. We hope to expand this half-time play next year to include more teams at both the Boys and Girls Varsity Home Games.
Special recognition goes to the 8th Grade Girls team, coached by Doug Collins, Jerry Marx, Jamie Simms and John Salamone, which won the Division 4 Championship for the second straight season. Finishing the regular season undefeated and as the number one seed, the team went on to defeat North Attleboro, the second seeded team, despite being behind at the half, by a score of 40 to 30, clinching the Division 4 championship.
Not to be outdone, the 7th Grade Girls team, coached by Doug Gladstone and Rick Klemmer, also went undefeated during both the regular season and post-season play to capture the Division 4 Championship, defeating a tough and resilient King Phillip.
The Boys teams, as well, made a strong showing with the 8th Grade Boys Division 5 team, coached by Ty Howe and the 5th Grade Boys Division 4 team, coached by Brian O'Connor and Howard Bramson, making it in to the semi-finals and playing hard fought and close scoring games.
Special thanks to all the players, parents, coaches, and volunteers who helped make this season a success. Best wishes to all who now move on to the High School programs.
